promoting cultural diversity

The office for cultural cooperation artlink is the Swiss centre of competence for art and culture from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. It documents, collaborates with and cultivates professional artists from these regions who are active in Switzerland and promotes intercultural cooperation. On behalf of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation DDC, artlink primarily supports music projects from countries at the focus of Swiss development cooperation, using financial contributions from the SüdKulturFonds.

artlink aims to make the European music market more accessible to artists from these developing countries. The basis for this programme is the Unesco convention on the protection and promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions, in which developed countries have committed themselves to expanding their cultural exchange with developing countries.

The artists

artlink documents and acts as an agent for artists from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe who are active in Switzerland and provides information concerning exciting groups and projects in countries which are in the focus of Swiss development cooperation work and which could be recommended for participation in events both in Switzerland and across Europe. This offering is supplemented by musicians made available through agencies located in Switzerland who specialize in Southern and Eastern countries.

artlink acts as an agent exclusively for artists who work on a professional level and who develop their own autonomous artistic positions. The work of these artists is continually monitored by artlink, new projects will be included in the offering only after close examination has been carried out in relation to quality and placement suitability. The Fund

When Palestinian hip-hop, the latest sounds from Bogota, electrifying desert blues, traditional songs from the Asian highlands, a Roma brass band or other music from the immeasurable storehouse of songs, instruments and sounds or film productions of Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe makes an appearance on a Swiss stage this is often thanks to the support of the SüdKulturFonds. The fund is financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and managed by Artlink, the association for cultural cooperation. For the years 2011 to 2013 it will have a total budget of CHF 1.95 million at its disposal, which will be allocated primarily in the music and film sector in accordance with the new strategic orientation of SDC.
