Quick Facts:

Anna Menezes, 28, is a photographer, visual artist, and emerging researcher based in Brasília, the capital of Brazil. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Theory, Criticism, and History of Art from the University of Brasília, and her artistic practice delves into the incorporation of movement in static objects as a means to explore corporeality, the psyche, and social relations. She employs three-dimensional experimentation with photographic images, treating the medium as both a corporeal and conceptual structure. The poetics of her work are built around the intersection of two central concepts: corporeality and communication.

Her artistic investigation is deeply connected to the process of Brazil’s Independence, with a focus on the plurality of identity that defines the nation. Anna's journey in photography began as a way to explore and document the rich cultural and historical tapestry of Brazil. Over time, her style has evolved to encompass not only documentary elements but also conceptual aspects that challenge traditional historical narratives. Through photography, she seeks to reveal ongoing historical narratives, tracing connections between the past and the present. Her work aims to revive ethnic-racial identities and emphasize national diversity within the Brazilian territory.
