Research for an ensemble performance looking at locating the memory of dance (especially Indian classical forms) - as a long term practise or a recreational tool in ageing bodies (specifically above the age of 60) that may or may not be currently engaging with the practise.

Avantika Bahl is a dance practitioner, educator and mum of two based in Mumbai. As an artist, her interest lies in creating inclusive performances that can be accessed by a large community. Her choreographic choices have actively brought diverse voices and experiences to the mainstream. Her performances have been invited to festivals across the country (ITFoK, NCPA. March Dance, Kala Ghoda etc). and she has been commissioned to choreograph for large scale and community festivals.
Her body of work includes collaborations with artists across various disciplines. As a performer, she has previously worked with choreographers, theatre directors and visual artists (Preethi Athreya, John Britton, Bharti Kapadia to name a few).
As an educator, she works extensively with young children to introduce them to creative movement and critical thinking. She is also faculty at multiple dance institutes in the city (ICMD, FSPA, SNDA etc) and is invited as visiting faculty for choreography across the country (Ambedkar University, Duende School, SEA etc). She studied at the London Contemporary Dance School and completed the Curriculum-in-Motion program offered by Jacobs Pillow. She has a Masters degree in English Literature and completed her Level 3 certification in Indian Sign language.
Three relevant works from the last 5 years of artistic practice:
- Mumbai Star (2023), choreography for full length musical, commissioned by Min-On Convert Association, produced by Dragon Rose Project, Premiered in Japan and travelled to 20 cities.
- Weft (2022 ), Choreography commissioned by Nila House Jaipur, India. Contemporary dance duet; performers- Shruti Datar and Melitta D Souza, sound design by Adriel George costume by Nila House
- Say, What? (2017)- Premiered in Mumbai, India. Self produced full length dance duet between Avantika Bahl and Vishal Sarvaiya. Sandbox Collective came on board later as Executive Producers.
