Quick Facts:

Translated as ‘Rising Tides’, Namkheun (นํ้าขึ้น) is a literary collective based in Bangkok, Thailand.

Namkheun is a product of disgruntled text exchanges where we shared memes, unfulfilled dreams, and personal insights. Together, we raged over the state of the world. And so in 2020, Namkheun materialized as an extension of such activities, an open chat if you will.

Understanding written works and translation as a form of activism, we focus primarily on the Thai cultural landscape and the possible reimagining of sociocultural boundaries in Thailand. From selecting and translating manifestos from English into Thai (Namkheun Manifesto) to translating prison letters and visitation notes of political activists from Thai to English (A raindrop caged awaits a raging storm, I suppose it is frost on the ground), we engage with texts as a portal by which we traverse across socio-political terrains and translate struggles and sensibilities beyond language.
