Quick Facts:

Nonzuzo Gxekwa (*1981) started a photography outreach programme for underprivileged kids in Port Durnford, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. In 2023 she was selected for the Latitude Curatorial Lab program in South Africa, which saw her curate an exhibition exploring the medium of photography. In 2021, the artist completed a 11 month long residency programme at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht, Netherlands. Among other exhibitions, Nonzuzo's work was presented in the show "Five Contemporary African Photographers" at the Photographer’s Gallery in London, 2021. In 2021, she was selected for the show "Self-Addressed", organised by Kehinde Wiley and Jeffrey Deitch in Los Angeles. For this exhibition, Wiley invited a selection of contemporary African artists to produce a self-portrait. Together these portraits presented a new exploration of identity, perception, and self-regard within the global stage. In 2022 her collaborative work, "The Mask Project" was part of the exhibition "Hope from Chaos: Pandemic Reflections" at the ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. Aside her solo show 2020 titled "Life is Beautiful" at THK Gallery, Nonzuzo's group shows, include: Ses'fikile sesikhona!
