I am working on two shows, one is a monologue titled "Stabat Mater Furiosa" by Jean Pierre Simeon, and the other show is "Oh les beaux jours" by Samuel Beckett originally created in 2017/2018, which will be performed in the four provinces of the DRC and in the province Bujumbura, Burundi.
Quick Facts:
I am Solange Muneme (*1987) an actress, storyteller and theatre director based in Lubumbashi, DRC. I have master's degree in nursing from the Higher institute of medical techniques in Lubumbashi. I took a liking to theater from a young age. My current vision is to re-open the Lushois Theater which has long been closed. The geographical location of Lubumbashi gives it the status of a landlocked city and plays against its artists. The reason being that Lubumbashi is far away from other urban centers in the country and it is a french speaking city with close proximity to neighboring anglophone countries. This creates a real obstacle for artistic exchanges inside and outside the country. Lushois shows are suffering from an acute slump in distribution. Once the show is presented at the French institute it no longer has any chance of running due to the excessive cost of plane tickets and the lack of road infrastructure within the country. Allthough it is easy to immigrate to Southern Africa, the language barrier makes collaborations with artists from that region difficult. I would like to establish a bridge between Lubumbashi and its close neighbors in Southern Africa by transcending the language barrier and facilitate the circulation of performances in the SADC region. Creating a sort of broadcasting center would increase the life of Lushois shows.
