I am honored to have been shortlisted for the prestigious Future Generation Art Prize. Currently, I am working on a new artwork to be exhibited in Kyiv, exploring themes of resilience and healing through cultural expression.
Quick Facts:
I was born in Sulaimaniah, Iraq in 1996 and graduated from the Sulaimaniah Institute of Fine Arts in 2016, followed by a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Sulaimani in 2020. Since then I have been working as an independent artist and freelancer, using different mediums such as paintings, installations, sculptures, performances and video to create my art.
Two of my most rewarding experiences were directing the installation project "Feminine", where 5km long pieces of clothing were hung in the main street of the city, and the project "Sound" involving 66 loudspeakers playing a recording of a female voice in different cities in Iraq. Both projects aimed to raise social awareness about violence against women.
I am also proud to have been part of for Mural Festivals project, where I had the opportunity to support internationally recognised artists such as Guido van Helten in creating contemporary street art in Sulaimainah for Mural #1 and I have also created my own art for Mural #2 which is a 160m long painting that depicts 12 old photographs from everyday living individuals from Sulaimaniah.
Three relevant works from the last 5 years of artistic practice:
- Feminine Project, a 5km-long installation using clothes collected from women who experienced violence, Sulaimaniah, 2020.
- Voice Project, management and implementation of an installation project that used 66 bullhorn speakers to raise awareness about violence against women in different cities in Iraq, 2020.
- Mural #2, mural along the Sulaimaniah - Raparin Road, 2023. In 18 scorching days under 40+ Degrees Celsius heat, I painted 12 murals inspired by old photos from 1950s.
